- He started his racing journey with karts and was a national champion at the age of 8.
- Before contesting at the Grand Prix level from 2011, Brad had participated in 3 seasons of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, where his best performance was a 5th-place finish in the championship standings.
- His younger brother Darryn is also a professional motorcycle racer and both the siblings competed at the Moto3 World Championship in 2015 and 2016.
- When he won the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, Brad became just the 3rd South African racer to ever win a motorcycle Grand Prix and the first since Jon Ekerold triumphed at the 1981 Italian Grand Prix (350cc class).
