    Caroline Weir Facts

    1. She had started her soccer journey playing for a local boys’ team, Elgin Star FC, between 2003 and 2005, before hitting her teenage years. She used to play as a midfielder in those days and was a precocious talent, often netting 2-3 goals in a match.
    2. Aged 10, she had joined the youth system of Hibernian W.F.C., a team that plays in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL), the top division of women’s football in Scotland. She had stayed in that developmental system between 2005 and 2011. In 2011, she had won the SWFL (Scottish Women’s Football League) ‘First Division Player of the Year’ award.
    3. Between 2011 and 2013, she had turned out for the senior team of Hibernian W.F.C. after which she had joined Arsenal W.F.C. in the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) in July 2013, just days after leaving high school. With the club, she had won the 2014 FA Women’s Cup. In July 2015, she had left the club and had joined Bristol City W.F.C. for a brief spell.
    4. In January 2016, she had left Bristol City W.F.C., who had been relegated and had signed up with Liverpool F.C. Women. Later that year, she had been named the ‘Liverpool Ladies Player of the Year’.
    5. In June 2018, she had joined Manchester City W.F.C. with whom she has won the FA Women’s League Cup in the 2018–19 season and the Women’s FA Cup (2018–19, 2019–20). She had been adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ in the final of the 2019 FA Women’s League Cup.
    6. In September 2019, in the inaugural Manchester derby, she had scored the winner, a 25-yard strike, in a 1-0 win against Manchester United W.F.C. The goal was nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award 2026, an annual honor accorded to the soccer player adjudged to have scored the ‘most beautiful goal’ of the season. The award was instituted in the memory of the legendary Hungarian soccer player Ferenc Puskás.
