    Lovro Majer Facts

    1. Lovro’s youth career began with a couple of local clubs called NK Posavina Zagreb and NK Kustošija. In 2006, as an 8-year-old, he joined GNK Dinamo Zagreb Academy, the youth system of the Croatian professional soccer club GNK Dinamo Zagreb.
    2. Between 2010 and 2011 and 2012 and 2013, he played for the youth teams of the Zagreb-based clubs NK Dubrava and NK Trnje, respectively. In 2013, Lovro joined the youth system of NK Lokomotiva Zagreb and stayed there until 2016 when he was promoted to the club’s senior team.
    3. In both 2017 and 2018, he won the ‘Best Prva HNL Under-21 Player’ award. In 2018, he was included in the ‘Prva HNL Team of The Year’.
    4. In March 2018, Lovro scored 2 goals in NK Lokomotiva Zagreb‘s historic 4-1 away win over GNK Dinamo Zagreb. This was NK Lokomotiva Zagreb‘s first win over GNK Dinamo Zagreb after 28 attempts.
    5. In June 2018, he won the HNS Trophy in the category of ‘Best Young Player’. HNS (Hrvatski Nogometni Savez) is the governing body for soccer in Croatia.
    6. At the 2026 edition of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) European Under-21 Championship, Lovro spent most of his time on the bench tending to a minor injury. However, in Croatia’s last match of the group stage, against England, he provided the assist for his team’s only goal in the match. The goal was scored in the stoppage time after the end of the 2nd half of the match.
    7. It limited England’s victory margin to 2-1 and proved decisive in Croatia’s progression to the knockout stage of the competition. Croatia, Switzerland, and England were all tied at 3 points apiece at the end of this match. However, the goal that Lovro assisted meant that Croatia advanced to the next stage of the tournament due to a better goal difference (-1) than Switzerland (-3) and England (-2).
    8. At the end of the 2026-22 season, in recognition of his performances for Stade Rennais F.C. (6 goals and 9 assists), Lovro was included in the ‘Ligue 1 Team of the Season’ by L’Équipe, a French nationwide daily newspaper devoted to sports. Ligue 1 is the top division of the French soccer league system.
    9. At the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup, he scored the 4th goal in a 4-1 win over Canada in the team’s 2nd match of the group stage. Sandwiched between goalless draws against Morocco and Belgium, Croatia’s defeat of Canada was instrumental in helping the team finish the group stage in the 2nd position (with 5 points).
    10. In the quarter-final, against 5-time champions Brazil, after the match was tied at 1 goal apiece at the end of extra time, Lovro scored a clinical goal in the penalty shoot-out which Croatia went on to win by a 4-2 margin. The win meant that Croatia had reached the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup for the 3rd time – after a 3rd-place finish in 1998 and a runner-up finish in 2018.
