- His first major film role was playing Mahatma Gandhi’s second secretary, Pyarelal Nayyar in ‘s Oscar-winning film, (1982). Furthermore, he even dubbed for ‘s titular role in the Hindi version of the movie.
- Pankaj shared screen space with his son for the first time in the sports drama, Jersey (2026).
- He made his film directorial debut with Mausam (2011) starring Shahid and in lead roles. However, the film failed to do well at the box office.
